Why this Problem?
Letting the Facts Speak for Themselves.
A shocking 931 million tonnes of food, or 17% of the total food available to consumers globally in 2019, was thrown away by households, retailers, restaurants, and other food services, according to the 2021 Food Waste Index Report from UNEP. A staggering 24% of households regularly tossed out spoiled or rotten food due to over-purchasing or simply not noticing forgotten items at the back of their fridge.
Our Contributions
How can we design a planning tool that would enhance household waste education and assist individuals in managing their personal food waste?
How can we define a unique brand identity that reflects our mission and vision to save food?
There are so many apps for this. What's so new about Freshcart?
Before starting this project, I took a look at what some of the competitors are doing to solve similar problems, both inside and outside of India. I discovered what they're doing wrong and what good things they offer. Additionally, it also helped me to identify any potential gaps in the market that I can address with my project.
But, who are we addressing?
Introducing...
Goodbye smelly groceries!
Who doesn't love a good reminder? No one likes to be caught off guard by groceries that have gone bad, so an inbuilt function that sends reminders when your groceries are about to expire is a real lifesaver! Not only does it help prevent food waste, but it also gives you ideas for recipes so you can use up all your ingredients before they go bad.
Recipes hand-picked for you.
At Freshcart, we know that everyone has different dietary needs and restrictions. That's why we make it our goal to tailor each person's individual experience with our app. We take into account your allergies, upcoming expiry dates, and healthy choices to make sure that we're always providing you with the best possible blend of products.
Inbuilt grocery shop.
Imagine not having to leave your house to buy groceries ever again! Now you can with inbuilt shopping add-ons from shops nearby. This is especially great for working people or older people who may not have the ability or time to go out and buy groceries.
Next Steps
My learnings and takeaways.
Within the timeline of this project, I only talked to two households and relied heavily on secondary research. Freshcart needs to be tested on a wider user spectrum considering every household problem.
